WASHINGTON U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has been transforming pupil lending since her appointment in February, raising issues among Democrats that she’s going to undo former overhaul of college financial support.
Ahead of the speech, college students, alumni and political activists sought to have DeVos’ invitation rescinded, saying they have been offended by her earlier comment. DeVos, who’s a proponent of faculty alternative – together with constitution faculties and college vouchers – later clarified her remark, noting that historically black colleges were created as a result of different establishments were not open to African-Americans.
