Embattled ESD#6 Board Members Took Over The Southside ISD School Board
CHICAGO The Illinois State Board of Education initiated an investigation Thursday into the monetary stability” of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), a move that builds off Republican Governor Bruce Rauner’s name for a state takeover of the money-strapped district.
Its 12 members include nine citizens appointed by the governor and three non-voting ex-officio members — the state superintendent of schools, the chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, and the chancellor of Community and Technical College Education. The state superintendent is a constitutional officer who serves on the will and pleasure of the board. Board members serve overlapping phrases of 9 years.
